I am writing this note to you on the Fourth Sunday of Easter, which is known as the Good Shepherd Sunday. I am humbled at the news from Bishop Noonan that I have been assigned to be the administrator of your beautiful parish. How grateful I am to the bishop for his vote of confidence!
Saying farewell to St. James Cathedral where I have been serving as an associate for the past three years will be very difficult. At the same time, I am looking forward, with joyous anticipation, to serving you at St. Paul’s. I want to thank Fr. Mark Wajda, my dear friend and your current administrator, for his kind assistance and guidance during this time of transition. Due to the fact that I am going to be spending two months at Catholic University for my summer studies in Canon Law, I am not able to come and greet you in person, when the news of this assignment is released. For that I apologize! My hope is to record a short video message to address you. That way you can, at the very least, connect the face to the name.
You soon will find out that I am a simple man, whose ultimate desire is to serve the Lord in this beautiful vocation. I pray that I may serve this new community with commitment and sincere love after the example of Christ the Good Shepherd. Kindly remember me in your prayers as I keep you in mine.
Until we can be introduced in person, may the Good Lord hold you dear in the palms of His hands.
Fr. Martin H. M. Nguyen
