St. Paul Catholic Church provides a rich and varied music ministry and gives much attention to its choirs for as stated emphatically by the Second Vatican Council:
“Choirs must be diligently promoted,” provided that “the whole body of the faithful may be able to contribute that active participation which is rightly theirs.” (Music in Catholic Worship)
Adult Choirs are made up of friendly parishioners of all ages who, in addition to providing this essential ministry of prayer to the parish, enjoy the exploration of music of all styles with much attention to learning about music reading and vocal technique. Members enjoy additional fun opportunities including festive combined choir presentations with orchestral accompaniment.
The ability to read music and the quality of your voice are less important than your love of singing and willingness to serve.
Our Handbell Program adds great beauty to our liturgical celebrations both musically and visually. Members rehearse weekly to learn handbell techniques and prepare the musical offerings they play at Masses once or twice a month and at festive Holy Day celebrations including Christmas and Easter.
Cantors have the unique privilege of bringing to life the songs of scripture, particularly in proclaiming the responsorial psalm. The Cantor also sings various other parts of the Mass in dialogue with the assembly and choirs. Cantors must possess an attractive voice and the mastery of certain musical skills. Interested candidates meet with the music director to further explore the possibilities.
Please contact James Moursund, music director, for information regarding membership in any of these groups at 352-787-6354.
